Our objective is to offer affordable first class holidays in Egypt to small groups of people and families who prefer to get away from mass tourism and experience this fascinating country from a different perspective.
Tim Baily: Founder of African Angler Pty. Ltd.
Camp site with mother ship and safari boatsIn 1993 we had the privilege to pioneer fishing safaris on Lake Nasser and over the past 18 years we have become a household name in the sport fishing world for our first class boat safaris. Using the experience gained by our safari teams we also offer ecology related holidays.
Lake Nasser is situated in the middle of the largest and driest desert on our planet. A vast body of water in a desert environment, the shoreline a variety of desert landscapes, hilly and rugged, or flat and sandy with clean freshwater beaches; it’s a magical wilderness of stunning desert scenery bordered by clean fresh water which is dotted with rocky islands. There is an atmosphere of tranquillity, vastness and adventure offering a refreshing alternative to the crowded tourist sites of the Nile Valley.
The West bank of the lake has vast stretches of flat shallow shore line which attracts wild birds because of the abundance of available food. The area is an important staging point for millions of over wintering and migrating birds which rest up and feed on their journeys between Africa and Europe. This bird population attracts a variety of predators making up a food chain that also has an impressive variety of, mammals and reptiles. In contrast, the east bank of the lake is scenically very different, made up of wild and rugged desert landscape where the Nile has pushed up against a range of mountains on its way north to the Mediterranean Sea.
Watch spectacular desert sunsets followed by a dazzling night sky full of brilliantly bright stars; in this part of the world there is absolutely no light pollution from cities a phenomenon few peo
The lake has an impressive variety of bird lifeple have ever experienced. Lake Nasser is an untamed and beautiful area both from both the points of view of the scenery and its wild life.
Boat Safaris on Lake Nasser
Hotel ships cruise down the middle of the lake viewing the desert panorama from a distance. We offer a more in-depth experience exploring the remote areas of this stunning lake getting close to the magic of its wilderness, wild life and nomadic people.
Boat safaris are similar to the African ‘Hemmingway’ style of safari where overland vehicles are used for travelling and sightseeing, whilst support trucks carrying the equipment and safari staff, go on ahead to set up luxury camps. Our safaris are similar except we use live aboard boats which are supported by mother ships that provide all the requirements for a first class safari camp. Days are spent exploring the lake in live aboard boats then meeting up with the mother ship for lunch and night stops.
Boat safaris are as close to the real meaning of the Swahili word safari as you are likely to find, amazing desert panorama and wildlife combined with the atmosphere of being on an African style safari makes these holidays a truly unforgettable experience.
"These safaris are not just about angling and fishing. To sit back under a big, full sky full of stars, eating, drinking and yarning, listening to the desert sounds.... are a super experience, both exciting and relaxing simultaneously ".

Boat Safari Units
You can come on any of our safaris in either a house boat or a safari boat. House boats are an ideal choice for families or a group of friends; the more people sharing a house boat the less expensive it becomes for each person. Safari boats are smaller; they were originally designed as fishing boats so if you would like to do some fishing as well they will be ideal choice.
Each live aboard boat is skippered by an English speaking Nubian guide with extensive knowledge of the wildlife, places of interest and the desert Bedouin who graze their camel and sheep on the lake shoreline. Days are spent expl
Top deck of a house boatoring the vast picturesque desert lake then at lunch time and in the evening you meet up with your mother ship where meals and drinks are enjoyed in comfortable surroundings.
For more details about our boats refer to heading Safari Units in the left panel.
Mother Ships
Mother Ships are an essential part of a well organized safari unit; they carry the equipment, provisions, fuel and the safari staff leaving the live aboard boats free to explore the lakes desert scenery and wildlife. They are fitted with a built-in kitchen, dining area, toilet, and shower; there is plenty of space on the upper deck to relax sunbathe or watch the world go by.
Most people are pleasantly surprised at the standard of food on safari; the style of cooking is a blend of western taste merged with Nubian cuisine, which is superb. With approximately one member of staff per person, there is little to do except relax and enjoy your holiday. Each of our mother ships is equipped with a satellite telephone which can be used if required.
House Boats
House Boats have two spacious cabins sleeping four people comfortably; they can accommodate up to s
Desert Foxix people with two sleeping on the sun deck. They are fitted with a toilet & shower and a small galley with amenities for making tea or coffee; there is also an ice box filled with cold drinks. The sun deck has a comfortable shaded area which is ideal for relaxing and watching the lake go by.
A house boat is perfect for exploring the Lake, big enough to be comfortable but also small enough to reach shallow areas, where you are more likely to see wild life and get close enough for that memorable photograph.
Safari Boats
Safari Boats are smaller than the house boats, they were originally designed for fishing and will be ideal for those who would like to try their luck for a Nile perch. They have a cabin with two large bunks, at night the cabin can be enclosed by canvas providing a cosy sheltered sleeping area. There is also space for two sleeping on the top deck under the desert stars; remember it never rains in the desert. Unlike the house boats, safari boats do not have an on board toilet and shower, these facilities are provided for on the mother ship.
