“Our objective is to offer affordable first class holidays to small groups of individuals and families who would like a change from crowded tourist sites and experience this fascinating country from a completely different perspective”.            Tim Baily founder of African Angler Pty Ltd.,

Egypt is famous for its magnificent ancient monuments depicting the dawn of civilization but few people know about one of Egypt’s most picturesque and exciting natural treasures Lake Nasser.
In 1993 we had the privilege to pioneer boat safaris on Lake Nasser and over the past 19 years we have become a household name in the angling world for our first class fresh water fishing safaris. Using our in-depth experience of this fascinating lake we also operate ecology related holidays.
Lake Nasser is situated in the middle of the largest and driest desert on our planet, a vast body of clean fresh water in a desert environment, the shoreline a variety of desert landscapes, hilly and rugged, or flat and sandy with clean freshwater beaches, a magical wilderness of stunning desert scenery and wild life creates an atmosphere of tranquility, vastness and adventure. The West bank of the lake has vast stretches of flat shallow shore line which attracts wild birds because of the abundance of available food. The lake has an impressive variety of bird lifeThe lake has an impressive variety of bird life
The area is an important staging point for millions of over wintering and migrating birds which rest up and feed on their journeys between Africa and Europe. This bird population attracts a variety of predators making up a food chain that also has an impressive variety of, mammals and reptiles. In contrast, the east bank of the lake is scenically very different, made up of wild and rugged desert landscape where the Nile has pushed up against a range of mountains on its way north to the Mediterranean Sea.
Watch spectacular desert sunsets followed by a dazzling night sky full of brilliantly bright stars; in this part of the world there is absolutely no light pollution from cities a phenomenon few people have ever experienced. Lake Nasser is an untamed and beautiful area both from both the points of view of the scenery and its wild life.

Desert Lake Boat Safaris – How they Work

The best way to experience Lake Nasser is to come on an African Angler boat safari which is as close to the real meaning of the word safari as you are likely to find. On a traditional African safari 4x4 vehicles are used for travelling, while support trucks carrying the equipment and safari staff go on ahead to set up comfortable camps. Our safaris are similar except we use ‘live aboard’ boats supported by well appointed mother ships instead of land vehicles. Days are spent exploring this remarkable desert lake in your own private ‘live aboard’ boat then at lunch time and in the evening you meet up with the mother ship where meals and drinks are enjoyed in comfortable social surroundings. Amazing desert panorama and wildlife combined with the atmosphere of being on an African style safari makes these holidays a truly unforgettable experience.Golden Jackals visiting camp for a feedGolden Jackals visiting camp for a feed

"These safaris are not just about angling and fishing. To sit back under a big, full sky full of stars, eating, drinking and yarning, listening to the desert sounds.... are a super experience, both exciting and relaxing simultaneously "

The late Barrie Rickards: Professor of Palaeontology and Biostratigraphy Cambridge University.

Boat Safari Units

Boat safari units are made up of ‘live aboard’ boats which are supported by a Mother Ship. For your ‘live aboard’you can charter either a House Boat or a Safari Boat. Each ‘live aboard’ boat is skippered by an English speaking Nubian guide with extensive knowledge of the wildlife, places of interest and the desert Bedouin who live on the lakes shoreline.

Safari Crew: An important requirement for a successful safari is the crew who run the safari. We have taken this seriously devoting a lot of time and effort in selecting and training our team; well over half our safari crew has been with us for ten years or more.
African Angler Safari crew and guides are all Nubians who are the people that inhabited the Nile Valley before it was flooded by Lake Nasser. The Nubian people have a proud and rich heritage that dates back to long before the Pharaohs were in control of ancient Egypt.
There is an excellent esprit de corps amongst our Nubian staff, they are proud of the work they do and you can’t beat them for their spontaneous and genuine friendship.

Mother Ships are an essential part of a well organized safari unit; they carry the equipment, provisions, fuel and the safari crew leaving the ‘live aboard’ boats free to explore the lakes desert scenery and wildlife. Mother ships are fitted with a built-in kitchen, dining area, toilet, and shower; there is plenty of space on the upper deck to relax sunbathe or just watch the world go by. Most people are pleasantly surprised at the standard of food on safari; the style of cooking is a blend of western taste merged with Nubian cuisine, which is superb.  With approximately one member of staff per person, there is little to do except relax and enjoy your holiday.  Each of our mother ships is equipped with a satellite telephone which can be used if required.

House Boats are an ideal choice for families or a group of friends, the more people sharing a house boat the less expensive it becomes for each person. House boats have two spacious cabins sleeping four people comfortably; they can accommodate up to six people with two sleeping on the sun deck. They are fitted with a toilet & shower and a small galley with amenities for making tea or coffee; there is also an ice box filled with cold drinks. The sun deck has a comfortable shaded area which is ideal for relaxing and sun bathing. A house boat is perfect for exploring the Lake, big enough to be comfortable but also small enough to reach shallow areas, where you are more likely to see wild life and get close enough for that memorable photograph.

Safari Boats are smaller than the house boats; they were originally designed for fishing and will be ideal for those who would like to try their luck fishing. Safari boats have a cabin with two large single bunks, at night the cabin can be enclosed by canvas providing a cosy sheltered sleeping area. There is also space for two sleeping on the top deck under the desert stars which most people find is a unique and peaceful experience; it never rains in the desert. Unlike the house boats, safari boats do not have an on board toilet and shower, these facilities are provided for on the mother ship.

Ta Seti Abu Simbel Safari Cruise

Every Tuesday we operate a 5 day safari cruise between Aswan and Abu Simbel which, on a cost per day basis, is not much more expensive than staying in a good hotel on a full board basis.
In the footsteps of Agatha Christie’s classical narrative ‘Death on the Nile’ the Ta Seti safaricruise follows the exact same route as the characters in this famous story. Lake Nasser hasflooded the original Nile Valley route portrayed in the story but the experience is still asspectacular as it was at the turn of the century.
